Winamp Expands for the Next Era in Music

Since the inception of MP3, Winamp’s role in music history has always been clear: innovate and define the digital music experience.

Winamp aims to do the same for music today, in an era of expanding formats and closer artist-fan relationships, colored by a push for more independence and options from artists and by a deeply changed fan attitude toward paying for music and supporting music creators. Winamp is expanding to become the music superapp that can unite and balance the many creative forces at work in music right now.

The expanded Winamp will have substantial offerings for both fans and creators. Fans will soon have a single place to gather all their music and audio services, whether that music is enjoyed via a streaming service, radio station, podcast platform, or lives in file folders. They will be able to support their favorite artists directly and access exclusive goodies, also easily enjoyed via a gently upgraded Winamp player. 

Creators will have even more useful tools and features at their disposal, as Winamp gradually unveils more of its bigger, better platform in the second half of 2022. They will be able to set up direct-to-fan subscriptions with custom tiers and pricing, to sell digital collectibles using NFTs, to license their tracks for sync and other purposes, to distribute their music to streaming platforms and to collect from CMOs thanks to Winamp’s sister company Bridger. All in a single app.

Other forward-thinking plans are in the works to allow artists to do more with new formats like NFTs and enhance the music listening experience. Yet Winamp’s original role--as the great unifier at the heart of the digital music revolution--will inspire this next chapter.
