Music from NFT tracks plays just like any other audio files.

“Winamp has always been about accessibility and innovation, and today we are proud to launch the very first standalone player that reads NFT audio and other existing formats,” Winamp CEO Alexander Saboundjian wrote in the official release.

The latest version of Winamp allows music lovers to link their MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet through the Brave, Chrome or Firefox browser with Winamp. Users can then connect their favorite track as an NFT file.

In addition to audio, Winamp also supports video files based on the ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards. So far, the novelty is supported only on the Windows operating network, but in 2023 the company plans to expand the line to other ecosystems.

In an upcoming update in early 2023, the Winamp developers plan to implement a dedicated service for artists and users. It is expected that direct sale of tokens will become available, as well as the organization of concerts through the services of the player. It is expected that the update will immediately be cross-platform.

Winamp is one of the oldest PC music players, created in 1997 by Nullsoft.

In 2013, the development of the player was stopped, but since 2018, work has been underway to restart it as a single multimedia platform.
